The quality standards that underpin IP House data centre

A man with a beard and glasses is standing in front of a projection of binary code.

As 2022 draws to a close, we are proud to announce that we have renewed our core ISO accreditations for 9001, 14001, 27001 and 50001. Commitment to quality is our ongoing goal in the data and cloud solutions sector. Let’s have a dive into what our 4 ISOs mean for clients and stakeholders.

What is ISO 9001?

In a nutshell, ISO 9001 is a set of management principles that make sure our quality management systems meet the various needs of consumers, stakeholders and the staff.

What are the benefits of ISO 9001?

ISO 9001 is used by over one million organisations worldwide; it is one of the most widely recognised management standards globally. As an independent certification, the ISO 9001 is highly respected by consumers and the marketplace. Furthermore, the ISO 9001 brings financial benefits and shows that companies have managed to reach ‘superior operational  performance’.

What do companies have to do to be awarded ISO 9001?

The two main requirements by the ISO are:

  • ‘Demonstrate its ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.’
  • ‘Enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the standard, including commitment to the continual improvement of the system and applicable regulations.’

What is ISO 14001?

This ISO accreditation concerns environmental management; it is designed for organisations that need practical tools for the management of their environmental duties.

What does ISO 14001 do for a company?

This ISO sets out a framework for an environmental management system which an organisation can follow to effectively implement standards to reach accreditation. Moreover, ISO 14001 is available for any kind of organisation; it shows company managers, staff and other stakeholders that the ‘environmental impact is being measured and improved.’

What do the standards in the ISO 14001 family cover?

Overall, the standards cover environmental systems, audits, communications, life cycle analysis, climate change, labelling and so forth. Watch this Youtube video to get more information about ISO 14001.

What is ISO/IEC 27001?

The third ISO is for Information security management. In today’s digital world IT security, cybersecurity and privacy protection are essential for all businesses. The ISO/IEC 27000 family of standards protects companies and organisations from cybersecurity threats. Alos, it shows that we are adhering to the very highest standards of security for our data and cloud solutions.

“ISO/IEC 27001 is the world’s best-known
standard for information security management systems (ISMS) and their requirements.”

(ISO.org website, 2022)

What are the benefits of ISO/IEC 27001 for an organization?

There are a number of ways that this ISO accreditation is beneficial:

  • It secures all types of information i.e. paper versions, cloud-based data and digital data.
  • It increases a company’s ability to face cyber-attacks.
  • It gives a centrally managed framework securing data in one place.
  • It guarantees protection throughout an organisation for technology and other risks.
  • It helps a business respond to ongoing security threats.
  • It lowers costs and spending on defence technology which is not effective.
  • It provides protection for the ‘integrity, confidentiality and availability of data’.

Best Practice For Security of Information and Data

Companies are not obliged to get this certification but it demonstrates to customers and stakeholders that a company is following best practices to ensure the security of data management.

What is ISO 50001?

This ISO accreditation covers energy management; it is designed for businesses who are dedicated to dealing with their impact on energy usage. Also, it focuses on the conservation of resources and efficient energy management. Furthermore, It is carefully designed to help businesses across all sectors and to give them a practical system to have more efficient energy usage using an energy management system (EnMS).

How does ISO 50001 help companies?

Firstly, it is about developing an energy management system with continual improvement. Plus, it helps organisations to integrate energy management into their existing systems to further develop quality and environmental management.

A Energy Management Framework To Support Companies

The ISO 50001 supplies a framework of requirements for companies to:

“Develop a policy for more efficient use of energy, fix targets and objectives to meet the policy, use data to better understand and make decisions about energy use, measure the results, review how well the policy works, and continually improve energy management.”

(ISO.org website, 2022)

Although the certification is not compulsory, companies attain it for the benefits it bestows. Also, it demonstrates to external parties that you have embedded an energy management system in your company operations. You can read more about
